Here is a little story I made up last night. Just
read it and tell me what you think, if you understand it and
everything.
In a different universe there is a planet. In this place it is
constantly cold but the people don't know anything other than cold.
No one has ever been warm before. There is a man who lives away from
the rest of the people and he has a telescope with which he watches
everyone. In this universe everyone lives within the telescope's
range. The man has nothing better to do than watch the people. There
is no material in this place to make anything very warm with.
There is a being made out of swirling wind on this planet. He
found some sand and dirt and decided he wanted that he wanted more
mass so he went and picked it all up with his winds. He then wanted to bring this dust everywhere, filling the air, including the
man's house. The man certainly did not want to be dirty, or the air
anywhere else for that matter. Now, because of the wirlwind, there
is dust in the air everywhere, making it impossible to stay clean.
The dust would be breathed in, causing ill effects to the people.
The man noticed how the dust made everyone dirty and sick, and he
himself was always clean because no dust came to his house. He liked
to be clean and he wished everyone else was clean also, but they
live among the dust. The wirlwind stayed above the clouds where no
one except the man could see him, but his dust fell down to the
people below without stop, making it an unhealthy place to live.
The man had a hot tub; the only source of warmth in this whole
place. He wanted to invite everyone to his house some day so they
could sit in his hot tub and feel warmth for the first time, but he
wants his hot tub all clean, so he will not invite anyone who is
dirty at all inside. He sent a message to everyone that he has a hot
tub, but they have to have no dirt or dust on them to rest in his
water. He also told of a winter that would freeze everyone into
immobile ice cubes, but they would feel the coldness constantly, and
it was coming and would last for longer than anyone could count, and
that the hot tub would be the only place to escape the cold. The man
invented a dust filter and he sent the instructions of how to make
it to the other people. The design was simple, but many people did
not want to go through the trouble of finding the parts needed to
make the filter. So they substituted other materials that were
easier to get. They thought their materials would work as well, but
they didn't. Others left out parts of the design that they felt
didn't need to be there. Their filters didn't work well either, but
it was good enough for them. But there were a few people who went
out and found all the materials needed and built a filter for
themselves and no dust entered, but everyone was still dirty from
the dust before they made the filter. (each filter was only enough
for one person.)
The man saw that the filters that were made correctly worked
perfectly, meaning the people who used them didn't get dirtier than
they already were. He sent instructions stating that washing oneself would get the dirt off,
but only if it was used with something called "soap" which was
another of his inventions. He gave some to the people who went
through the trouble of making the filters correctly and the soap
would wash off all the dirt guaranteed. The only drawback was there
was only enough soap for everyone to use once, so once you were
clean you couldn't get any dirt on you again, otherwise you wouldn't
be allowed in the hot tub. The people who changed or left out parts
of the design of the filters did not receive the soap because they
didn't make the filters good enough so they would just get dirty
again, so when they washed themselves with just water it didn't get the dirt off.
Once completely clean, the people were more vulnerable to the
cold, and the filters had an extra feature that was like a heater,
but only if built correctly. The filters had many settings, and
different kinds of dust came and the filters had to be adjusted
accordingly. Only the manuals told of how to do this, but again,
most people left parts out that were too much work, or they felt
wouldn't matter. There was a weekly technical support that you could
go and share any settings you found of, or ask questions. Each
technical support group was based off the manual, but most groups
left things out that they didn't understand.
Some think the hot tub isn't real. And most of the people don't
understand what it would feel like to be warm, so some don't even
care about it or they don't think it would be any better than they
are now, like if you never saw TV you don't miss it. No one has ever
seen it, except the man who owns it at his house. Some have tried to
find the man's house, but have failed. Since these people don't
believe there is such a thing as a hot tub, some have tried covering
themselves with mud to stay warm, making themselves even dirtier.
But they did not care because they didn't understand how warm a hot
tub would feel.
On this planet people make very little physical contact. The most
anyone does is hug, but hugging is a very big thing. The people
who got completely clean do not want to get dirty again because they
would have no way of getting clean, but almost everyone on the
planet wishes to hug someone at least once, but the clean people
cannot hug anyone who is dirty still, otherwise they will get dirty
themselves. So only clean people can hug clean people if they want
to stay clean always. This is how everyone is at this planet, until
that cold winter comes.
