How many hours did I say the trip to Idaho would be?
Scratch the freakin' 8 hours! Try 12 hours! My dad decided that going
north, then east, then south would be better than just going east.
He said the "east" way was just desert with nowhere to stop on the
way and it would be all windy roads. The "north, east, south" way
had cities on the way and was straighter roads, and would only be
1-2 hours longer. What he didn't know was that from Salem to
Portland (60 miles) it was "stop and go" traffic. Good thing I was
in an accepting mood. I had my pillow to lay down on too and it
helped the time to pass to think of Kelli.
There was sort of a haunted part of the trip. I'm serious. My
sister, Amy, said there was someone in a tuxedo in an old car
driving by, but she couldn't see his head, like he didn't have one.
Then Amy asked me if that was a school bus in front of us on the
freeway. I looked and saw that it said "School Bus" on the back, but
it was white in the back. It was around 6pm so I told her that it
was probably a sports team leaving a game. We saw a bunched-up
blanket in the back window that my sister, Andrea, said looked like
someone sleeping there. As we passed it we noticed that all the
seats were empty. When we passed the driver-side window of the bus,
Amy said there was no driver! Andrea and Catie said they didn't see
a driver either. And it wasn't that dark. I, however, did see a
driver, very clearly actually. He looked somewhat like my neighbor,
and he was either smiling or wincing with what looked like a cigar
in his mouth, but the end of it had a pale, blue spark and it made
his face look that color too. I honestly don't see how my sisters
couldn't see him.
Then it was getting dark and I looked at the valley to my right
and saw 3 pair of headlights. 2 were going the normal speed but 1
was going considerably faster and they passed us soon after. It was
dark and I couldn't tell the hills from the sky, but there was a
truck driving on the hill and it looked like it was flying. After
that we saw many lights. We knew it was a city and there was a large
space of blackness between the city and the road we were on, but
there was one light in the middle of it. I told Amy that it was
probably a house by itself that has been empty for a long time ever
since the family died. We said this place must be haunted from all
the strange things happening at once. Then we saw a road sign about
an exit off the freeway. Guess what it
said.......................Deadman pass next exit.
After that I saw the moon and it was a quarter moon, but it was
yellow-orange with dark, orange craters and outline. The top half of
it was covered by dark, blue and black clouds. The "haunting" stuff
quieted down after that and my sisters started getting tired (my
brothers were asleep), but it was fun while it lasted.
