Good Friends: Matt 1/23/2002
Note: The "good friends" entries are in order of when I met them.

I don't have any idea when I first met Matt. I think it was in high school. We first started knowing each other better when we had track together. Oh yeah, it was my freshman year. We were both sprinters, as well as Nick (not Nick my best friend), C.J., James, Brandon, Mike, Travis, and Jake. We all were friends. Travis was in throwing. We made up one of the groups in high school. I guess we would be jocks, because C.J., Brandon, Mike, Travis, and Jake were in football and C.J., Mike, and Jake were in wrestling. Soon, James switched to long distance, and then Nick. Then C.J. Brandon quit track. Finally, Matt switched to long distance. Mike and Jake stayed in sprints, but did the longest race being the 400 meters. I was in the 100 meters. My coach told me that all sprinters have to run each of the sprinter races at least once, so I was made to run the 400 once. I actually got a better time than Mike and Jake, lol. Neither Mike, Nick, James, nor Jake came into track the next year. Only Matt. He was still in distance. We all ate lunch in the cafeteria together, but James moved to another school. He's the one who introduced me to The Lord of the Rings. He often wrote his initials out which read J.A.P. I was writing a novel at the time, and had put Jame's friend, Josh in it. James wanted to be in it also. Guess where I got the name Lord Jap for the bad guy? Anyway, I think Matt and I were the only ones in our group who weren't in either football or wrestling. Matt and I talked the most during lunch. We would talk about science fiction and computers and stuff like time travel and just things you would think nerds talk about. We also talked A LOT about paradoxes like "What if you killed your own grandpa. Then you wouldn't be born, so you couldn't go back and kill him. But then you would be born because he didn't die." He liked Macintoshes the best though, grrrr. He had never seen DBZ, but he likened it to Speed Racer because it's anime. I showed him some DBZ music videos once and he said they are cool. C.J. and Travis are probably the only ones of them who actually like DBZ a lot. They all love WWF and WCW though, except Matt. Matt liked Top Gun a lot and he was trying to get into the Air Force Academy, which is really hard to get into. He always had all the Honors and A.P. classes. He was in yearbook also. He's the one who gave me the nickname "Rebel Leader" because I'm always the one to not cuss or do bad things. I think he got it from Star Wars. Okay, if I even said anything about a girl's looks, they would all turn to me and go "Whoa, Reed!" If I even got mad they would think it strange, because I seldom would. In fact, when I was at a birthday party with Amanda, one of my friends as well as Andrea's and the people in my group's, the girls were going to spend the night. Matt wasn't there because he got accepted into the Air Force Academy. He wants to be a fighter pilot and later be an astronaut. Anyway, the guys at the party wanted to spend the night also. We would all sleep on the floor but on different sides of the couch. They were calling their parents and asking if they could, and all being told they couldn't. Then do you know what they said? And they all agreed on it too. They used the fact that I would be there also, as reassurance that nothing would happen. I guess that says something good about me, lol. Anyway, I haven't seen Matt since he left for the Air Force at the end of our senior year. He was probably my best friend in school.
