My Trip to Kelli's 4/3/2002
Kelli and I had plans to meet, however half-baked they were. She lives in Texas while my house is in Oregon. We first started talking about when we move out of our parents' houses we could move in with each other in like an apartment or something. We weren't serious, we were just throwing ideas out in the air; saying what-ifs. Then we got to talking about really meeting each other in real life. She told me she wouldn't take a plane because she doesn't like them, so she would take a bus. I suggested Summer but she reminded me that there was also Spring Break. From what I could tell, she was seriously thinking of coming and staying with my family for Spring Break. She said she would probably only be willing to do that for me and none of her other online friends, even her online boyfriend. But she told me her parents would never allow it and she would have to run away to do it. One day she said she's ready to just hop on a bus and come right over here, I guess things weren't going well there or something. For some time, we were deciding if she should run away for Spring Break or wait until Summer when she would be 18. She said when she got back she would be in trouble beyond imagination, and imagine what her little brother would think if he woke up one day and she was just gone. And then her parents would probably hate mine for taking her in, and not letting them know, and it could get ugly. But she said she didn't want to wait until Summer, or Spring Break even.

Then out of the blue, the idea that I should go to her house first came up. I'm 19, I'm a boy. But the problem of money came up. I didn't know if I would have enough for a plane ticket. I told her that and she said that I have to come, because if I didn't, then she wouldn't come during Summer. She had been thinking about it more and decided that it would be too scary to stay with 8 unfamiliar people (including me) for a while. Then her dad suggested I take the bus since it would be cheaper. With Greyhound, it would be around $300 round trip. But, they had a special for students during Spring Break. It was only $99. I had enough for that. My parents didn't really want me to go because they thought I would get attached to her and want to move there later on and abandon our church. My dad took me to the bus station though.

The bus ride was freakin' way too long! 61 hours straight! I had to sleep on the bus, and I didn't get very much of it. I had Kelli to look forward to however. We stopped at many cities on the way including Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Diego, Calixico, Phoenix, El Paso, San Antonio, and I arrived in Houston. I started in Oregon and went through California, Arizona, New Mexico, and all the way through Texas since Houston is on the other side. I left Oregon Sunday morning at 9:05 am and got in Houston on Tuesday at 10:00 pm.
