Yep, Blitz Day (Wal-Mart's internal name for Black Friday), the name of the day after
Thanksgiving and the biggest shopping day of the year. The day you
hear horror stories of, from seasoned employees. The day on which
all tall tales are told at department stores. The day when $200
TVs are sold at $150. That was today, and at first it didn't seem
all it was cracked up to be.
First of all, Nick was here. We were going to go see "Signs" but
my mom took Andrea and Amy shopping and my dad had to go into work
early so Nick and I stayed here and downloaded cheesy Nintendo games
and played them. I had to go to work then.
While I was walking to the back to clock in, I saw Carly wearing
a really cool Trunks shirt. I came up behind her and said, "Cool
shirt!" She turned around and replied with "thanks" and then I guess
realized it was me and smiled. The carts were pretty full inside,
and the parking lot didn't look that bad, but Shane said it was
because most of the carts were being used. One thing I noticed early
on was that I didn't seem to be making any progress at all when I
brought carts in. I mean, it seemed like if I did nothing, then the
carts wouldn't get any worse, but if I brought them in, it didn't
seem to make a difference, either. Anyway, I worked my way from the
associate parking to the garden center and found that about 10 carts
were in G.I. Joe's parking lot, and about 30 were in the garden
parking lot, which is right next to G.I. Joe's. That's the farthest
distance from the main entrance of Wal-Mart! Well, needless to say,
my back hurts a little from that. But after I filled up the cart
area inside, it was my break time. Then guess what? The carts were
about 1/3 full inside when I came back from it. So, I did the same
thing, and got the carts inside all full and by that time (with
customers taking them out while I was bringing them in) it was 2
hours later and my lunch time. Before I got anything to eat, I went
over to Toys to say hi to Carly. We are supposed to see the new
Harry Potter movie when we both are able to. I mentioned the next
Lord of the Rings one and she already has plans to see it with her
friend, Nick. I said he always beats me to the punch and she
laughed. I guess her department was really a mess, though. I told her
I had to go eat and she pretended like I was being mean by leaving.
Then she said she'll talk to me later and I said, "Yeah."
I went to Subway and tried a new kind. The meatball sub. It was
good, but I like the cold cut trio better. Afterwards, the carts outside were
back to how they were when I came in, except there were about 6
carts left inside for the greeter. Great. So, I went back to work
and by that time it was really cold, or so people told me. I didn't
wear a jacket and people kept asking me if I'm cold, so I let them
touch my arm and they were surprised that it was warm. Basically, it
felt normal outside, and really warm inside, except my face was cold
outside.
On my last break, which had to be taken 45 minutes late due to
the time it took to fill up the carts inside from my lunch,
Elizabeth wanted me to walk with her on her break. She said she has
to go to Hardware really quick, though, but wanted me to walk with
her. Well, in the hardware department, she started talking to Mike
and then they walked off talking about something, and she really
acted like she likes him "that way". But anyway, I felt pretty
ditched, so I went back to doing carts. That is about the extent of
my day. Pretty fun, huh?
