Valentine's
Day... at work |
2/14/2003 |
Nothing different really happened, aside from seeing
my friend, Doug, and his girlfriend, Amanda, whom I used to go to
school with. Amanda was in my grade and we were friends, and Doug is
younger, and we became friends when I was a junior and in track with
his younger brother. Doug and Amanda come in sometimes, and it's
cool because they are both into DBZ. They were obviously off to have
a nice time together on Valentine's Day. Lucky.
Well, Tracy was there, telling me how Robert "her fiance" hadn't
gotten her chocolates, but she was talking about some other day, who
knows how long ago. She said he really had gotten her some, but he
took too long to send them and ended up eating them, lol. What a
guy, huh? She was saying how she had better get chocolate today, and
asked me if I was going to get her some (she always mooches off me
when I have something). I told her I would think about it, and she
repeated my words, but in a question that sounded like she knew I
was kidding. She was wearing this very nice prom dress, with her
Wal-Mart vest over it. But still, I have to admit she was quite the
pretty picture. I told I'd think about the chocolates, but her
pretty dress was points on her side or me getting them. She added
that it was pink (like I would know, I thought it was off-white).
Well, the next time I saw her, which was a few hours later, and
asked me if I had gotten them yet. I hadn't and told her so, and she
started blaming me for forgetting. I had every intention of getting
her some, but I wasn't going to let her know. During my last break,
I went to the Valentine aisle and examined over and over again the
various selections. She doesn't like peanut butter very much, so I
decided on a box of chocolates. The only problem was, there were 2
kinds: the big one, and the more expensive one. The big one looked
kinda big to be giving to a friend. I didn't want people to get the
wrong idea, especially her parents. I settled for the smaller one
that was a dollar extra. I knew she wouldn't mind the bigger one at
all, though. I did get a chocolate kitty for Nicole, too. She's always
nice to me, but gets talked bad about behind her back a lot. She
always asks for a piece of chocolate if I have some, and she's
bought me things before, so I thought I should give her something,
too. It's too bad other people whom I would like to give things to
would totally think about it too much and ruin the simple "being
nice by giving to friend" concept with thoughts about me trying to
impress them. But that's normal I suppose.
Oh darn, I totally forgot about Becky! Shoot. She's gonna kill me
one of these days. Just reach her arms through my monitor and
strangle me. ANYway, back to my day. I purchased these items via
Nicole, and she commented on how "someone is getting something
special". I told her I could very well be getting them for myself,
though of course she didn't believe me for a second. After I paid,
I handed her the kitty, and she said I was sweet ^_^ (sorry Kelli,
that face is just too good not to use). Then I hid the box of
chocolates in the cupboard thing where we keep the gloves for the
stockmen. Tracy came up there bringing a cart and said she was going
to go clock out and go home. Bonnie, the greeter, was up there and
she had a vase with roses sitting on top of the cupboard thing.
Tracy asked who's they were and I said they were mine. She was like,
"Right, you're a Grandma," pointing to the card that said "Grandma"
on it. Bonnie laughed. Tracy then said in trying-to-sound-sad voice,
"I didn't get anything for Valentine's Day." I told her not to
worry, that I'd give her a Valentine's Day handshake. She looked at
my gloves and said they were probably dirty. I told her she could
have a Valentine's Day walking to her car. So after she clocked out
and was ready to go, I grabbed the chocolates without her seeing and
walked her to her car as she told me some story about co-workers,
like always. I like listening to stuff, though, so it's cool. When
she had gotten into her car, I told her to have a good Valentine's
Day like I was saying bye. Right then I handed her the chocolates,
and she got all excited and said how she didn't know I had them. She
said it almost deserved a hug (you have to understand, her fiance
doesn't always get one). I asked if it deserved a handshake, and she
agreed to that, lol. I told her it raised the bar for Robert now,
and she was very willing to agree with that, too. I also got a
Valentine's Day hug from Amanda at Subway. That's about it, though.
The rest of the day (mostly before the events just explained) was
just pushing carts, with a headache. Stupid sinuses.
