At work with Melissa 3/29/2003
Before work I helped my dad put the rider mower in the back of Bro. Jim's truck, which my dad borrowed for today. We drove it to an old guy's house for him to fix it. His house had gotten fallen on by a tree last February in the huge windstorm. He now lives in his motorhome on the property.

I called Tracy's dad to ask for suggestions about the problem with my car and he said to put a tester light on the battery cable and then take out one fuse at a time to see if the light goes out. Once I find it, then I'll know what to replace. I did that and the light didn't go out for any of them. Then I took all them out and the light still didn't go out. I called him again but I guess they were already at the coast. I put the Carmageddon game CD in my car stereo and listened the the music from that on the way to work. Carmageddon is a really fun racing game and it plays the music as you race, and so it was like playing the game in real life when I drove with the music playing, only I didn't go nearly as fast, lol.

Carly was only at work until 5 and my shift started at 4, and the only time I saw her was when she was walking out to her car and she didn't see me. Oh well, that's okay. I wasn't going to run up to her to tell her "goodbye". She gives me a look like I'm being a freak when I do things like that. So I just let her go and didn't even approach her. If she wants my company then she'll come ask me, whether it be over the phone or just taking her break outside the break room for once and saying "hi" to me outside. Maybe that's too much effort for people to do, but they expect me to go inside and talk to them in their department. Anyway, I'm getting off topic. She left, and Tracy had already left to go to the coast as I said yesterday. The only person I hang around who was there was Melissa. Great. I was hesitant to talk to her since I figured she'd be mad about my note, which she'd probably think was out of line on my part and I was making something my business when it was hers. It was 7:45 and I was going to get the Crazy Bread Supreme from Little Caesar's Pizza, so I ordered it, then, so it would be done by 8, which was my lunch time. Then I filled up the carts and went inside to face the music with Melissa. *gulp* I already had pretty much planned what I would say in answer to the things she said, and I was planning on telling her that I got the Crazy Bread Supreme and I would ask if she was going to take a break and join me. I was planning on asking her that no matter what was said and no matter what mood she was in.

Well, she wasn't mad at me and we actually had a nice little chat... without so much as a word about the note. She even told me about her situation with her fiance. Apparently he isn't making enough effort to get a job and Melissa's sister is thinking of moving out and then there would be no way for Melissa and her fiance to pay for the place. She said if that happened, she'd just say "bye" to him and move back into her mom's house and leave everything behind. She'd then look for another boyfriend. Well, I told her about the Crazy Bread and she said she just took her break, but she might take a secret one to come share my food. We shared it, that we did (now I sound like Kenshin).

There was a young boy, maybe 7, up by the Service Desk with a stroller and a baby, along with the dog on a leash he was holding. The boy's 10-year-old brother was outside. I didn't know what was going on, but later the police were there and I heard rumor that no one in the store knew the kids and some thought they were abandoned. That would be terrible. Why in the world would someone abandon kids? I hope it was a mistake or some goofie thing, because otherwise, that's just wrong. Imagine what the boys would think. I never found out what was really up.

After everyone clocked out, I walked with Melissa while she shopped and then out to her car. I finally asked what she thought of the note and she said she hadn't opened the CD case since I gave it back to her, so she hadn't read the note. Oh boy. I'm not worried about it now, though, because she already told me about her situation and I gave her a little clue what the note was about so she knows what to expect. I'm still curious about what she'll think about it.

no offense, but having a friend take a "secret break" is really unfair to people who actually work when they are supposed to be working. It was having co-workers who did things like that that made me get sick of working at McDonald's. It's not right for her to go on break and eat with you while she is on the clock. She doesn't get paid to eat with you, she gets paid to work.
