Fixing and breaking my car 4/2/2003
I got up early (8 is early for me) and followed my dad to the electrician instead of finding a time when Tracy's dad could look at it. He's a guy whom our mechanic, Steve, recommends.

Later at home he called and said there was a short in the wire to the trunk light. He charges $45 an hour, but that's pretty much a minimum for electricians. The total cost was $80. My mom was going to HomeSource with the kids so I had to go with her so she could drop me off at the guy's house. He wouldn't be done until 3 and that's when their first class (Latin) ended, so she dropped me off at Putters, which is right next to HomeSource, so I could play DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) while I waited. I actually got a decent way through the song "Drop Out" on maniac. I ran out of quarters and I didn't want to use my $10 bill to get some more so I walked down the highway to a Dunkin' Donuts. Those are so much better than a grocery store's. I walked back and saw a computer place right next to Putters so I stopped in there to see what kind of deals they had on motherboard/CPU (central processing unit) combos because that's all Andrea needs to upgrade her computer to compare with the family one downstairs. Then maybe we can hook up the network and play games between them, and they'll have internet, though it would be much better if we had a high speed ISP (internet service provider) so that if both hers and the one downstairs were using the internet, it wouldn't make the internet crawl even slower. But from what the lady was telling me, I might want to give her the stuff in our computer and have the new stuff for me, lol.

Anyway, my mom got there and took me to the electrician and it was working fine and so I started to drive it home. Okay, I knew roughly how to get there, but not how to get back because of one-way streets. At one point I was on a 30-MPH street and there was an intersection with a green light so I kept going and halfway through I noticed that the street didn't keep going, but instead turned into a gravel road through a residential area. 30 MPH is kinda fast for that so I started to slow down (I wonder why there weren't any speed limit signs or other signs to warn of this) and then suddenly there was a dip in the road. It was abrupt enough that the bottom of my car scraped the ground. After that, there is a short metal-scraping-on-pavement sound whenever I apply my brakes. I was worried about driving after that but the car still seemed to function properly and I just hoped nothing would happen before I got home.

On the way I stopped into Graffiti Alley to see if my inner seal strips had made it. They said the people whom they ordered from are waiting on someone else to fill an order of material. Hmm. I told him what happened with my car and he said it doesn't sound like I cracked anything because that area is pretty tough, but he said maybe I either jammed a rock in the brake well, or I bent one of the guards that helps keep water off the brakes. I hope it's only something like that. He suggested taking it to a tire place and having them check it out. Okay, I have to stop by Les Schwab, anyway, to get my battery back.

So I did that and they said they can't find anything wrong with it, though they can't really do a thorough inspection, but my left shock was leaking a little oil. I have to drop my car off at Steve's tomorrow for him to put in my new distributor, anyway, so I'll bring that to his attention. Hopefully it won't cost very much. Cross your fingers!
