Matt's track meet 4/30/2003
Last night I watched "About a Boy" with Andrea. We stayed up until we were really tired, but we finished it. There was no way I was going to go do the hand washing in the kitchen (dishes that can't go in the dishwasher). In the morning today, my mom had me wash them, plus do the rest of the breakfast cleanup for not doing it last night before I watched the movie. That counted for yesterday's chores, so I still had to do all of today's. I was supposed to go to David's house to show him the DBZ: Legends game today and last time I couldn't find his house. My chores were laundry and dinner help and cleanup. Andrea was doing laundry instead, so I had to move the pile of wood in the front that I cut to the back, and that took a while to do. Then I found David's house, but his schedule is different this week, I guess, so he works tonight (he works overnights) and was sleeping. Since it was after 4, I just went right to my brother's track meet at the high school. He's in 8th grade right now, so next year he'll be in high school, but the middle school practices and holds their track meets there. He ran the 4-by-1 relay, the 400 meter run, and the 200 meter dash. The 4-by-1 is where there are 4 people who each run 100 of the 400 meters (one lap) and then pass the baton to the next person to complete a whole 400 meters. Matt used to be the ending person, but his friend got a better time last time, so he was moved to the starter (the starter and anchor [last person] are usually the fastest out of the 4). Since the first lane is the shortest lane, and the lanes get longer as they move away from the center, people running in those lanes start at different marks to make the distance the same. Matt was in the 1st lane, so he started behind everyone else. The adjusted starting areas compensate for the distance differences in both corners of the track, but Matt got into first place after just 1 corner, meaning after the next corner they would be even farther ahead. Matt's team got 1st place.

The next race he ran was the 400 meters. I ran that in high school and it's his second time running it. He used to run the 100 meters instead, but his coach thought he ran like more of a 400 runner, and Matt likes it, he said, because it's more of his race and he has more power in it. It was the same with me, though I liked the few times they had me run the 100 instead. Matt got 63 seconds and got 2nd place, someone from the other team being 1st. When I was a freshman, I ran that race once and got 58.9 seconds. When I was a senior and had switched to running the 400 for my main event, my best time was around 54 seconds. He's got some catching up to do, lol.

His last race was the 200, just half a lap. He got 2nd in that, too, with a time of 29 seconds. He said his leg hurt and he was limping when he ran. My best time in that race was somewhere around 24 seconds, but he's just in 8th grade. Who knows how much he'll improve.

When we got home, I went and laid down on Matt's bed (his is the lower bed of the bunk bed we share so it's easier to get on than mine) and well, my Star Gazer came to mind. I thought about what it would be like to visit her. I think it would be a very nice experience. But then I fell asleep without trying to. I woke up at 8:30pm and felt all groggy and drugged. I still feel that way some, and it's freakin' midnight. I have to bring my car into the transmission place tomorrow, and... ugh... then go to work. I hope Carly and/or Tracy is there. Wait, it's Carly's day off tomorrow. And Tracy will be there, I just remembered. Okay, that makes it a little better.

Sorry I haven't left you a note in a while. I don't know why, but my heart jumped when you said you were thinking of me. I think it would be fun and nice to get a visit from you. :o} I've missed you these past few days. We keep missing each other online. Tho, I do love your e-mails. :o} I hope to talk to you soon, sweetie.
