Learning car stuff 5/21/2003
(I finally can update now since this website is working fine)

Today was my day off and I had 2 places to go. First of all, today was the day I was supposed to watch "Treasure Planet" with Carly at her house and I asked her about it yesterday and she said she hasn't been feeling too well lately and to call her and see how she's feeling. Some plans also got put on today by Tracy who had washed and waxed her car and wanted me to come over and do the same. She even got me some wax to do it. I recently discovered I have to change my oil soon and since it's my first car and I've never done anything with cars prior to this, I didn't know how, and was going to have our mechanic do it for $10 until Tracy said that she'd show me how when I came over. I called up Carly and asked how she was doing. She said that she just ate and has to let it settle, so she doesn't know yet, but to call later. I explained how I was going to get my oil changed and wash my car and stuff, so it would take a while. She didn't have any problem with that.

I drove over to Tracy's after visiting the DMV and getting my registration replaced, and she was the only one home. We washed my car and then had to let it dry for half an hour and her mom came home from her cashier job at the Springfield Wal-Mart. While we waited for it to dry, Tracy took me to Petco to get some more fish since some of hers died. She got 2 puffers and a black shark (about 3 inches long). On the way home, she asked if I was hungry and I said I was, so we stopped by Taco Bell and got yummy food and brought it to her house. Then she showed me how to wax.

Michaelangelo: Wax on... wax off... wax on...
Raphael: MOUTH OFF!

She told me to wax while she sat and ate and told me where I missed spots. When she finished, she got up and took it from me and told me to eat and to tell her where she missed spots. At least she's fair. When I finished, I got up and did the "wax off" part while she did the "wax on" part. Tracy had to babysit for her brother's kids and when she asked if I could come, too, he said I couldn't, so I just had to stick around and wait for her dad to get home so he could show me how to change the oil. Before that, though, her mom had us go back to Taco Bell and get stuff for her and her husband, and we took my car this time. When we got back, I had to part in the gravel right next to the driveway because her dad would be redoing it. Tracy went to babysit and her dad got home and gave me a jack and said where to put it under. Then he said to jack it high enough to get under it and to use the wrence he handed me to unscrew the bolt that he pointed at, but to make sure the pan that he gave me was under it. Then we went inside and ate. I would've done all that, except my car is so low that the jack wouldn't fit under the part it's supposed to, even when it's lowered all the way. He had to lift the car up a little for me to do it.

After I did that, he helped me remove the filter and we had that drain into the pan as well. I had to put the new filter on and screw the bolt back on. Then I pulled the pan out and lowered the car back and put all the stuff away. He gave me a funnel to pour the new oil in, but it was so wide that I had to unscrew the air filter to fit it down in there. My car takes 5 quarts and I used the synthetic blend since my car has high mileage. He said to start my car, then, and see if anything leaked. Nothing did and he said it was fine, then. He had me pour the old oil back in the container and to have the trash guys recycle it. I suggested taking it to Wal-Mart and returning it and Tracy's mom laughed. Then they needed a head for the hose to spray water at high pressure, so he sent his wife and me to get it, but she just hurt her arm by doing something, so I drove her in my car.

When we got back, Tracy was back and right away she had to leave to get a changeable head for the hose (we got the right one, but they needed a different one, too) and some tire foam. Tracy took me with her and we went the our Wal-Mart and got the stuff, then we mingled with some co-workers and there was a page saying that a red Chrystler le Baron had their lights on and Tracy said it was probably her and she gave me her keys to turn them off. After that, she insisted on window shopping in Michael's and we went back to her house after that. It was around 9:30 then and I remembered I had to go to Carly's, too, and was looking forward to that. I first went to Hollywood Video and got an account, since I had my registration this time, and then remembered that Carly said not to rent anything until I call her and make sure she's feeling well enough to want company over. I called from a payphone and she said that she's really tired and has to get up early tomorrow to take her dog to the vet. Well darn. I hate when things don't work out.

I think it was yesterday when she told me that she and Nick will be seeing the X-Men movie again tomorrow. I'm like, "Again?" She said it was because she didn't get to see it with him last Thursday, but she went by herself since he got called into work. I asked why she didn't just see the Matrix one with him and she said it was because he had a free ticket to the X-Men one and that she might not see the Matrix one with him, anyway. Well, Randy and I have plans to see the Matrix movie tomorrow as well. At least I'm not without something to do, and maybe she'll want me to come over and watch "Treasure Planet" after the movie. Who knows? She's funny that way.
