(so are the Speed Blaster popups)
Okay, as you know from my technical mumbo jumbo in my last entry,
I got the computer working again with drive C being formatted in
FAT32 and having Windows 98 on it, and the D drive being formatted
in NTFS and having Windows XP on it. I sometimes use the internet
really quick when it's in Windows 98 because I don't want to reboot
and go to mine and I notice that the family's desktop is messy with
icons all over and lots of programs start at startup, and other
things. No one does anything to it, not even change the background
for crying out loud. It's still that green color (though it looks
gray to me). One time I took a picture that my dad took of Matthew's
track team and I zoomed way in so Matt's head was all that could be
seen. It was so blurry and pixely, but you could tell it was him. He
was looking off somewhere and it looks like the wind was blowing and
he was cringing his face because of it. I put that picture on the
background of the family's drive and eventually everyone was
complaining about it, but no one changed it. I mean, Andrea and Amy
know how to change it easily, if not more of my family, but no one
bothers to. So I'm glad I don't use the same hard drive as they do,
which is why I made one for myself and I hid the boot menu that lets
you choose which OS you want to boot to because I don't want them
going to mine (believe me, they will because mine looks nicer and
works better, and has all my songs on it). So I have to hold F8 at
startup and choose to boot normally, then it gives me a choice of
which version of Windows to boot to. No one knows about that but me,
so it's great security for me.
Well, yesterday I had some songs downloading so I left it in
WinXP and ran a few errands. What a coincidence that that's the same
time my mom decides to put Cybersitter back on (stupid internet
filtering software). And what do you know, she puts it on mine since
mine is up, of course thinking that it's affecting the whole
computer. If I didn't have mine up, she would just put it on Win98
and think it would affect everyone, but it really wouldn't affect
mine, but she wouldn't know that. But no, she puts it on mine since
mine is up, not realizing that it only affects me, so I had to go
and tell her that she has to put it on the other one, too. She also
brought to my attention that she looked in the history and found
some bad sites and that (of course) she's disappointed in me because
if we are to have a house pleasing to the Lord, they can't allow
that kind of stuff. She already called my dad and told him about it,
and of course, he agreed that things don't put themselves in your
favorites or history by themselves (stupid parents don't understand
anything). Please, if I haven't had time to chat on AIM with work,
being tired when I get home, and getting the computer running, would
I have time to go look up cheap porn? My dad is in California right
now to visit with our church down there but mostly to pick up his
sister and bring her here so she can move in with us (like we have
enough space with a family of 8 as it is). There were also a number
of favorites to adult sites so that convinced her. I told her I
never use favorites (because I don't, and I don't even use Internet
Explorer, but I wasn't going to tell her that because then she'd go
and check out Opera as well). So anyway, I emptied the history and
deleted all the favorites (since I never use them) and after she
went to a few more anti-spyware sites, I had her look at the
favorites and sure enough, there were some adult links, as well as a
link to porn on my desktop that wasn't there before. I hope that
makes her less suspicious. I hate it when they don't believe me.
When she had to reboot, it went right to Win98 (like normal) and
she asked how to get to mine so she can finish. I didn't want her
going and messing mine up more, so I told her that a boot menu is
supposed to show up to let you choose which OS to go to (but of
course I had hidden that) and that if it didn't show up, Cybersitter
must have done something to it. Hehe, that convinced her. She even
tried emailing Cybersitter to ask why we can't get to the D drive
anymore. Like they know that it's formatted in NTFS and Win98 can't
read it, lol. Basically now she thinks she prevented me from getting
to mine and thinks she messed something up. I had to go to work, so
that saved me from "magically" getting mine working again in front
of her.
When I got home, the computer wouldn't start up at all and my mom
was convinced she had really messed it up (it was just missing a
file that Windows needed to start). Well, I'm tired of them trying
to do stuff themselves on it because they don't trust me to give
them good info because they think I'll try to make it so Cybersitter
won't work how they want or something; make things work in my favor.
Please, I can get rid of Cybersitter easily enough. And since I'll
only be getting rid of the one on my drive, they won't know about
it. They have it set to block internet activity after a certain
time at night, so I can't get home and go online when they are in
bed. Cybersitter also got a little smart and put in an option to
block someone from changing the time in the lower-right corner.
Well, lol, Windows gets that time from the motherboard, and you can
change the motherboard time when the computer first turns on by
going into the CMOS setup. But anyway, after much trouble and
working in DOS, I got the file back and got mine working again and
discovered they used the same password for Cybersitter as last time
so I immediately uninstalled it while they are at the zoo right now.
Everything's fine again.
