Wild car chase 8/11/2003
The computer has been what is on my mind half of the time. The other half is this wild car chase. As you know, I was trying to get a loan for the car I wanted. I got declined and the guy gave me 14 days to come up with the money if I paid him $100 up front. For the first week, I tried to get a co-signer any way I could, and also I racked my brain on ways to sell my car and get the money some other way. I considered asking Brad if he'd accept payments if I gave him $1,000 down (I'd borrow it from Andrea). I asked him and he said he thinks he needs it all up front.

Randy told me that his bank told him that they could give him a loan in 3 months. The delay was because he had just started his job at Wal-Mart, so I though "hey, I've been working at Wal-Mart for a year and 2 months! I should have better luck." So I went and got an account at Selco Community Credit Union and applied for a loan. Now, where Oregon Community Credit Union didn't approve me for any money, Selco approved me for $3,000. Hehe, I'll be sticking with them. So then at work, I talked to Randy and he said he could give me $200 up front for my car on payday (the last day of the 14 days) and then make payments after that. I could use that and also up to $400 of my own to put down, but I'd still be $1,050 short. While discussing it with Randy, Robert overheard and said that if I'm going to accept payments, then he'd want to buy it and he can put $500 down. He could also make from $150 to $300 monthly payments. His wife of 4 years is 2 months pregnant with her first child and they only have a pickup truck and they need to have a vehicle that can hold car seats and they can't get a loan because she is racking up the medical bills. I decided to sell it to him instead of Randy since Randy just lives down the street and can easily ride his bike, but Robert's wife just got hired at Wal-Mart and she needs a car. I now had 2 options: I could go to Brad and ask if he'd accept payments after I paid him $3,650 up front ($3,000 from the loan, $500 from Robert, and $150 from my paycheck), or I could borrow $1,000 from Andrea, which is something I don't really want to do. I went to Brad and asked him, and he said he'll think about accepting payments for the last $1,000, but even if he does, he won't release it to me until it's all paid off. That was on day 11 that I did this (Monday. Thursday was the last day he'd hold onto the car for me). I went to Robert at work and told him the 2 scenarios, and that if I went with the payment plan, I'd have to keep my car until Brad's car was paid for so Robert would have to wait for my car until then. Robert told me that he has another curve ball to throw at me, and that I probably won't like it. He said his wife did some research and discovered that car seats won't fit in my car because it has bucket seats in the back, so now she's against buying it. He told me he wishes we signed on it early on because he was afraid this would happen, and that he could probably make car seats work. So anyway, I only had Randy to buy my car, or go to a dealership and try to sell it to them to come up with the money I needed.

Chris is a new associate and he is friends with Phil. He often helps Phil do the carts with the cart-pusher, but has taken a liking to helping me when Phil's not there. I was telling him about selling my car to a dealership and he said I should just change my engine and transmission to make it just as good as an IROC-Z, plus it would be a "sleeper" meaning it would be a lot faster than the outside boasted, since it only says "Camaro". I brought it to his attention that an engine would cost $500, a transmission would cost the same, my mechanic would charge $1,000 to put in just the engine, and I'm not sure about the transmission, plus the $3,000 loan is only good for the car I'm trying to buy, so without that, I don't have hardly any money to buy these upgrades. He said that Phil's neighbor put in the same stuff into Phil's car and he only charged him $800 for parts AND labor, plus he will accept payments. So, I agreed to that and will be keeping my car and now all I have to do is wait for a day that both Chris and I have off so we can go visit Scott (Phil's neighbor) and ask him directly.
