The fair was in town and Andrea wanted to go to it
because she likes the fair, and also because one of her favorite
bands would be holding a concert there. I was to give her, Ashley,
and her co-worker, Kenneth, a ride there and I could stay if I wanted
to, but I'd have to buy my own ticket to the Beach Boys concert if I
wanted to attend. It came up when I was talking with Nick, and he
wanted to go as well, mostly because there was going to be a DDR
contest there, and the contest winner for Oregon was going to be
there and give a demonstration. Well, Ashely decided against going,
since it was on Wednesday and she didn't want to miss bible study,
so I got Ashely's concert ticket. I remembered that only 3 of the
seatbelts in my car work, so I couldn't bring Nick, anyway, so I
told him that. Then, we heard that Kenneth can't go because his
grandma just had a stroke, so we brought Catie along, instead (Andrea
(19) and Catie (12) are both my sisters).
We had to park a ways away from the fair due to parking, but we
got there and immediately went on the swings ride. I usually get
sick on rides, so I don't go any besides the swings one and the
octopus one. After that, Catie and I went on the octopus ride and
then Andrea and Catie went off to go on more intense rides while I
looked around for the DDR, to no avail. Not even the people in the
information booth had heard about it. I had an elephant ear and then
met my sisters at the ride we agreed on at 7:00 because that's when
the concert was starting.
We got there and it was already starting and we got to our seats.
They were of course older than when they were really popular, but
they sounded very similar and played a lot of songs that we liked. I
think I was the only boy my age there, lol.
It was getting dark when it was over and they left without giving
any autographs, which sucked. Andrea and Catie went to go on more
rides and I looked for the DDR machine more, with no luck, and also
got some food and tried the game where you take a hammer and hit the
thing on the ground and the thing goes up the pole and hits the bell
at the top if you hit it hard enough. It tells you a number
indicating how hard you hit it. You get 3 hits. Hitting a score of
100 rings the bell. If you get 0-99, you get nothing unless you're a
little kid. 100-124 gets you a 2nd place prize, 125-149 earns a 1st
place prize, and 150 gets you the grand prize. The last time I went
to the fair, which was probably 2 years ago, the highest I hit was
98. This time, I had to wait for 3 guys. One looked like a guy in
his late thirties and had his family there watching him. The highest
he hit was like 103 or something. The next 2 guys were like early
thirties. I looked at their arms and theirs were larger than mine,
but most guys' arms are bigger than mine. I'm skinny. The first of
them hit 90-something, then 111, then 80-something. The next guy hit
all below 100. I got up there and, of course, felt like I could pound
it really hard, but guessed I'd get around 100 if I was lucky. My
first hit was 111, and I was surprised. Next hit was 125! Then the
last one was 90. I got one of the 1st place prizes. I guess it's
from chopping wood. My prize was a stuffed animal dog. Well, it's
what it stands for that counts. Later, I saw this hispanic guy look
like he was just doing a small practice hit to see how hard he'd
have to hit it, but that small hit put a 150 on the score board. I
saw that and just shook my head. There are some pretty impressive
people out there.
I met up with my sisters and waited while they went on a few more
insane rides, then my mom called and was upset that we hadn't left
yet since it was dark. I know that Andrea had already called and she
told me that we could stay longer, but then I found out that she
talked to my other sister, Amy, and not my mom. I told her we were
only going on one more ride and then getting some dinner and we'd
leave. She said she didn't want us walking to my car in the dark, so
she was going to drive up there and go with us. Andrea had convinced
me to go on the Sinbad ride and the guy was waiting for me, so I
tried to hurry my mom up and then I got on the ride. It's the one
that swings back and forth and then goes around in a circle but
doesn't go upside-down. I liked it a lot more than I thought I
would.
We got some dinner and I heard the Konami sound and looked up to
see a DDR machine sitting all alone. I went over there and asked a
guy nearby about not being able to find it. He said that the fair
wasn't sponsoring the contest and he doesn't even think there will
be one, and they couldn't even get the machine working yesterday,
but it will be available to play for the rest of the fair, but the
fair was closing for the night so I couldn't play. We realized that
my mom would come there expecting to come in and find us, but find
that the fair is closed, so Andrea sent me to the gate to wait for
her while they finished their food. She said she'd meet me there. I
went to the gate and waited for a while, then finally saw my mom
pull up with my sisters in the van and wondering where I was. I
guess there was more than one gate. My mom wasn't happy that we
split up, nor that we stayed when it was dark, but it was
fun... somewhat.
