After checking some more of Strong Bad's email
responses on HomeStarRunner.com, my mom came in with the classified
ads with a few of them circled. 2 were for Hynix and one was for
Symantec. One for Hynix was an entry-level position making chips
and the other was for a technicion to repair computers for the
facility, something that I've been studying for and the same type of
thing that I did in high school for Mr. Osborn in the media center.
My mom thought that it sounded too complex for me, but after I read
it, I said that it's exactly the job I'm looking for. It asks for 5
years experience, but I'm still going to try.
The one for Symantec was at a job fair at Personnel Source. I got
directions for Personnel Source and Monaco Coach Corporation. I
printed up my resume and set off for Personnel Source first, since
they closed sooner. The one for Hynix requires that I email my
resume and cover letter, so I can do that any time in the day.
At Personnel Source, the lady at the counter asked what I was
there for and I had to sign in and she asked if I had my resume. She
gave me an application and I had to go sit in a desk with a really
small writing surface to fill it out. Once I was done, I gave it to
her and she said that all the positions for the first wave have been
filled, but there will be a second wave and I'll get a call in 5-7
days about it. That's cool.
The directions for Monaco traveled into more unfamiliar territory
for me, and it didn't help that the directions weren't completely
accurate. They said to take the Beltline and get off at the I-5
exit. I was to take the 5 freeway to an overpass and after it, there
would be an intersection and I was to turn right. That sounds easy
enough. The problem was that there was no overpass. There was a
hill, which is obviously what the lady who told my mom meant, and
you could turn right or left or go straight at the top of it, but
there was no intersection after the hill. I called my mom on her
cell phone and asked her about it and she said that she guesses I
should've taken the one at the top of the hill. I just had to get on
the other side of the freeway that was going the other way. An exit
didn't come for 10 miles and my gas meter was pointing from 0-2. I
finally got off the freeway and turned around and had to go another
10 miles to get back to the hill. The only problem was that the hill
wasn't accessible going the other way. I just headed for familiar
territory and decided to start all over after I got some gas.
The road took me to Coburg, and wouldn't you know it, that's
where I was trying to get to all along since that's where Monaco is.
I found the place and turned in my application and then drove,
hoping I'd find something that led me back to where I knew. I passed
Cresent St. and turned down another street to turn around so I could
go down that. Wal-Mart is on Cresent and so is a Chevron. I needed
gas, plus I know how to get home from Wal-Mart, so I filled up my
tank and then headed home. It was rainy all day. I better go now
since Amy's waiting for me to finish this so she can start the
X-Files movie that she begged me to rent for her. I haven't seen it
for a long time and don't remember anything about it, so I'm going
to go watch it. Wish me luck with my jobs!
