I know I haven't been around much lately. Oh well, if
you missed me too much, well, sorry but it was a nice break. Anyway,
I've been having to get up at 6:45, which is way early for me. I'm
used to getting up like from 9 to 11. I've obviously had to go to
bed around 11, which was okay because after the first day, I've
started getting really tired around that time, anyway.
On Monday I left kinda late and there was all this slow traffic
on the Beltline. I couldn't find the parking garage and then, once I
found it, I couldn't tell which floor was which. My parking permit
is only valid for floors 2 and 3 and I finally figured out that the
first one you can drive into is #1, and then the one below it is 2,
and the one below that is 3. I found ECE, which is where I now work,
and waited with a few other people who were late as well. The first
day we just sat at computers and listened to the various people
telling us stuff, like the history of the company and junk like
that. We were introduced to some of the programs we'll be using and
stuff. Yes, Jamie, and stuff. There is a pizza place nearby called
Pizza Pipeline. I actually like their pizza better than Little
Caesar's and it's cheaper. Plus, it's like right by the coffee place
that Todd and Kristen like going to. I haven't talked to them in a
while. I haven't talked to anyone outside my family or church for a
while besides Jamie. If it weren't for the phone, Jamie would be in
the same boat as everyone else since the few times I get free time,
my dad's on the computer or I have to do something on it for him.
I'd call Kristen, but whenever I did, she and Todd are out
somewhere. My mom went into Wal-Mart the other day and she said she
saw Tracy and she said for me to call her sometime and we can go to
the coast and stuff. Hmm, the coast in winter. I guess that would be
cool. I haven't hung out with her in a long time. Mmmmm, Korn rules.
I like their "Untouchables" CD the best. Speaking of CDs, I got my
"Strong Bad Sings, And Other Type Hits" CD in the mail! It has the
Trogdor song first and "To the Limit" for the last one. It's so
cool. It also came with a coaster and a Limozeen sticker. "I said
come on fhqwhgads!"
The second day of training was more of learning the programs.
That was more interesting. Ben, who sits behind me, is into Homestar
Runner, he used to be into 8-bit Theater, and he likes all the Final
Fantasy games. Sean Prescott was our teacher and he talked about a
bunch of stuff like viruses and the different verions of Windows. He
said that he'll tell us the differences between Windows 98 and ME
and then talk for probably half an hour about why he hates Windows
ME. Everyone in the class laughed. I heard nothing good about ME in
the whole discussion. He said basically, they were in the middle of
making Windows 2000 and the marketing people said how much they'd
lose if they didn't release a version that year, so they just took
what they had and threw in some Windows 98 with it and sold it.
People say they thought it was a joke Windows. The person beside me
said he had Windows 98, tried ME for 2 days and couldn't stand it,
so he went back to 98, then went to XP when it came out. Sean said
his dad and brother used to have ME and were stuck on it and
whenever they'd have a problem, he'd fix it for them, then say to
get rid of ME. When they finally got XP, he hasn't heard anything
out of them since. The A+ Certification doesn't even cover Windows
ME.
The third day was learning more about Windows versions, which was
basic stuff to me after passing the A+ Certification. Oh yeah, and
they said that after I work there for 90 days, I become a permanent
employee and not part of the temp agency, and then they will pay for
stuff like the A+ Certification. That's so cool. On the first day I
got a free turkey! Everyone working there did. They said that they
award working overtime, like last year they gave away a couple of
Xboxes! Jeez! PS2s are better, though, hehe. Anyway, on the third
day we had to go and listen in on some "seasoned" technicians' phone
calls. I got someone named William McGlasson. He's a little older
than I, and he said he's been there for about a year. My headset
went out halfway through the first call. I got a new one and the
second call was only a few minutes because the guy decided he'd
just look on the website since you have to pay for the service. The
third guy lasted a long time on the phone and my listening session
ended before it was over, so I had to go.
I got Thanksgiving and the following Friday off, so I work next
on Monday. I'll be listening to more phone calls, but this time I'll
have to do the programs for the guy while he talks. The next day
I'll have to take some calls on my own. That will be scary! I hope I
do alright.
I saw "Freaky Friday" with my family yesterday. We didn't go to
the showing that we got tickets for since it was so packed, so we
just hung around the mall until the next one. I got a Christmas
present for Jamie. I know she'll like it. The movie was good. I
liked it a lot.
At home, I called Jamie and we talked a while like usual. Then I
told her that I've decided to give her a chance and be her
boyfriend. I mean, she deserves it and she's worth it. So wish us
luck in that. The distance will be hard, but I'll do my best for
her. Well, that's it. Later!
